Abstract

The climate change increasingly compromises life on Earth, as a reflection it is estimated an increase of global temperatures by 3.4 ° C this century, forcing populations to adapt to extreme weather patterns.

The current context requires an acceleration in the use of renewable sources for energy production, as well as the development of technology that allows storing the energy produced - solar batteries.

Solar batteries are an answer to the intermittency inherent to renewable energies and are expected to have unprecedented growth in the next decade.

This alternative is reflected in a revolution that will pass through our homes and businesses, which will represent around 25% of the total number of installations of storage solutions on a global level already in 2030. EDP today already has an answer for this trend, providing an offer of batteries, at an Iberian level, in a complementary way to its solar solutions.

Objective

The Smart Storage Open Platform project aims to build a battery control solution, manufacturer agnostic, that allows wide and competitive sourcing, in order to accelerate the adoption of this technology both in B2C and B2B markets.
This project that aims to research, design and develop an integrated energy storage solution that easily integrates any battery manufacturer and any market inverter, has the vision to achieve a low cost control system that integrates any battery, any inverter, any electric vehicle, in different use cases.

Partners

The project is carried out by a consortium that includes the Smart Energy Lab, EDP Comercial, Instituto Superior Técnico and Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, thus allowing the exploitation of strong synergies between market knowledge and technical-scientific knowledge from industry and ENESII downstream of the energy value chain.
