Objective: The design and manufacture of a rack for the placement of 10 Smart Meters and fast prototyping of SmartBox.
Destination: EDP IoT Hackaton Competition.
Process: 3D CAD parametric design, rapid prototyping/digital manufacturing using additive/subtractive manufacturing techniques.
Development: 3D modeling in Solidworks and Rhinoceros CAD; SmartBox 3D printing; Valchromat CNC machinery for frame structure and laser cutting of acrylics; prototyping of Printed Circuit Board.
Following the EDP IoT Hackathon competition, organized by EDP Innovation in partnership with Microsoft and NarrowNet, FabLab EDP designed and manufactured a rack to provide 10 EDP Boxes (Smart Meters) to the contest participants.
In preparation for the event, the Microsoft mentor from the US made a SmartBox prototype at the FabLab EDP, with an electronic circuit for reading, processing and sending data from Smart Meters through SIGFOX radio technology. During the competition the teams were able to use FabLab EDP for electronic prototyping and digital fabrication.
