EDP surpasses 1.1 GW of installed renewable capacity in Italy

EDP, a global leader in renewable energy development, has surpassed 1.1 GW of installed utility-scale renewable capacity in Italy since entering the Italian market. This milestone confirms the company’s continued commitment to one of its strategic markets in Europe. 

The 1.1 GW threshold was surpassed thanks to the commissioning of two wind farms, La Regina and Rosamarina, both located in Basilicata, in the province of Potenza. The two plants increase EDP’s contribution to renewable electricity generation and to the achievement of the country’s decarbonization goals, where the Group has already developed nearly 40 utility-scale renewable projects. Today, EDP has nearly 450 MW in operation in Italy, supported by a successful asset rotation strategy through which the company has reinvested proceeds from the sale of certain developed projects into new renewable energy opportunities across the country. 

The La Regina wind farm, with an installed capacity of 30 MW, will generate more than 70 GWh of clean energy per year, enough to meet the needs of over 26,500 households and avoid almost 38,000 tons of CO₂ emissions every year. Rosamarina, with more than 43 MW of installed capacity, will produce around 87 GWh per year, supplying energy to over 33,000 households and avoiding almost 47,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually. 

Together with EDP’s other operational assets in the country, these projects form a diversified renewable portfolio spread across much of the national territory, supporting Italy’s energy transition while also strengthening security of supply.
