In Portugal, supporting the integration of migrant women into the labor market.
The “Workplaces Working with Migrant Women” initiative, carried out by Workplaces and EDP, with the support of other entities, aims to support the integration of migrant women in the labor market, using Portuguese language teaching.
Language as an integration tool
EDP joined Workplaces in supporting the “Workplaces Working with Migrant Women” initiative, which runs from May 2022 to May 2023, with the aim of boosting Portuguese language teaching to migrant women in Portugal, who generally have low qualifications and fewer job opportunities and, consequently, fewer opportunities for integration.
Operation of the initiative
EDP, together with three social sector entities - ACM, Lisbon Project, JRS - and four companies - Portugália, El Corte Inglés, Grupo Lusiaves and SONAE -, brought together volunteer collaborators (buddies) and migrant women for a one-year language teaching learning experience and social and cultural skills.
The buddies will teach Portuguese to migrant women, using the materials (content, games and exercises) provided by SPEAK.
