Cleaner Figueira da Foz
On September 19, 2022, an EDP team dynamized a beach cleaning action, which involved 53 volunteers. In partnership with Brigada do Mar, they cleaned 3.5 km of Tocha beach, in Figueira da Foz, collecting one ton of garbage.
Brigada do Mar is a Portuguese non-governmental organization for development (NGDO) which, since 2008, has been carrying out actions to decontaminate the coastline and protect biodiversity. It also develops recycling initiatives and awareness campaigns to alert society in general to the scourge of marine litter, encouraging citizens to join the Brigade.
There are four main areas of action:
1. Coastal decontamination
Beach cleaning, in a regular and structured way, with teams of volunteers, companies and schools.
2. Environmental education (OCEANIZAR)
- Raising awareness among students and teachers about the protection of the oceans through beach cleaning actions, lectures and workshops;
- Encouraging the creation of school groups dedicated to the analysis and intervention of good practices that awaken agents of change in consumption, recycling and environmental intervention;
- Development of international collaborative projects in several areas with focus on capacity building for human and sustainable development.
3. Eco team buildings (CORPOR-ACT)
- Involvement of companies and institutions in the mission of the Sea Brigade;
- Raising new agents of change through actions with great impact at individual and collective level.
4. Cooperation for development
Creation of a network for the transmission of knowledge and good practices with the various actors in the area of sustainability and blue economy. The goal is to share and acquire information between associations, companies, institutions and universities in order to test and apply the best solutions for the benefit of the oceans.
