In Brazil, contributing to children and adolescents well-being and development.
Within the scope of the "Sustainable Communities" challenge, EDP supported the "Sports for life" initiative, directed to children and adolescents, with the objective of contributing to the improvement of their well-being and personal development.
"Bate bola with Cacau"
The practice of sports is an important tool in social inclusion and the formation of citizens. It was with this idea that EDP joined the "Sports for life" project, held at the Padre Bernardo Murphy school, in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil.
The initiative gathered the participation of 120 children and adolescents to practice sports, with the objective of contributing to their physical, social, emotional, spiritual and relational development, providing moments of leisure and conditions to improve interpersonal relations.
Methodology "Bate bola with Cacau"
The project's activities, carried out in times when children and teenagers don't have classes, are based on the "Bate Bola com Cacau" (BBCC) methodology, developed by a multidisciplinary team in partnership with the soccer player Claudemir Jerônimo Barreto (Cacau). It is based on theoretical concepts, the practice of sports, and the promotion of citizenship.
Themes such as human rights, for example, are approached based on training through sports. Sports such as soccer, volleyball, basketball, handball, rugby, table tennis, and badminton are, first of all, approached from an educational perspective, starting with their historical context, explaining their rules and fundamentals, up to the practice of the sport.
Sustainable Communities Challenge
The Padre Bernardo Murphy school, in Mogi das Cruzes, is part of the community that won the Sustainable Communities Challenge, an initiative involving 58 communities, carried out with the purpose of making the population aware of the importance of sustainability.
The people in charge of each community received training, during which topics such as "Introduction to the topic and the waste problem", "Recyclable Waste", "Organic Waste", and "Other Waste" were covered, which they would later share with their groups. In each of the stages, a challenge was proposed to the communities, which received scores according to their performance. The Jefferson Community was the winner.
EDP Brasil has been working continuously to promote cooperation and dialogue with the communities where it operates, supporting and developing projects that contribute to the social inclusion, quality of life and well-being of these communities.
