In Brazil, providing children and young people with sports activities and free school support.
EDP supported the Manobra do Bem project, which provided 150 children and young people from Poá, Brazil, with sports activities and free school support during a year.
Sports as a tool for social inclusion
In May 2019, EDP was one of the sponsors of the Manobra do Bem project, carried out by the non-governmental organization (NGO) Social Skate, aimed at young people in Poá, Brazil.
The project allowed to offer sports activities to 150 children and teenagers, held during non-school hours, during 12 months. In this third year, in addition to skateboarding (a sport offered in the two previous editions), the children and teenagers were also able to practice basketball and futsal.
Skateboarding as a tool for inclusion
The actions carried out in 2019, relied, once again, on the excellence that Social Skate has always applied to its teaching method, using skateboarding as a tool for social inclusion and instilling citizenship values in young people and children, with the goal of forming human beings who are the best version of themselves.
The students who benefited from the project received free support from instructors who are former students now transformed into disseminators of the Social Skate methodology. Daily, the participants were entitled to snacks and school and family monitoring which, according to the project promoters, are essential complements to the training of young people.
In this 2019 edition, Social Skate revitalized the public spaces they have used since the end of 2018, now called Quadra 1, where skateboarding classes are held; and Quadra 2, the new space that will host sports and cultural activities, such as Futsal, theater, ballet and circus classes. This new space, which has EDP Brasil as its main sponsor, was officially inaugurated on the same day as the launch of the Maneuver for Good II Project and was named "Maneuver for Good - Sport, Movement and Art".
