In Spain, towards a new era for Industrial Heritage.
EDP supports different initiatives for the protection of industrial heritage, such as the XXII International Days of Industrial Heritage, held by Incuna in 2020, and the implementation of an online platform for the dissemination of the industrial heritage of Asturias.
Protecting industrial heritage
As part of its concern with the protection and dissemination of industrial heritage, EDP sponsored the 22nd edition of the International Conferences on Industrial Heritage, held by Incuna, which had the theme "Towards a new era for Industrial Heritage" ("Hacia un new deal para el Patrimonio Industrial"), and took place between 23 and 26 September 2020, in Asturias, Spain. It also supported the creation of the platform www.patrimoniuindustrial.com.
XXII International Days of Industrial Heritage
Incuna is a non-profit industrial archaeology association, of public and social utility, which brings together citizens, groups and specialists interested in the defense, conservation and enhancement of industrial, cultural and natural heritage.
Although the XXII International Conferences on Industrial Heritage were held in a context of pandemic and global health crisis, the organizers, sponsors and participants remained firm in their conviction that the industrial heritage is an important element in our societies.
Incuna believes that industrial memory and work cultures are an important know-how and resource of our cities and territories. Firstly, by defending the industrial heritage in activity, with its workers, technicians, jobs and dynamic industrial processes.
Secondly, using the historical heritage of industrialization, with its factory testimonies, machinery, buildings, documents, material evidence and its immaterial heritage to develop cultural and creative industries programs, meeting social needs, linking their social appropriation to the participation of local communities, in collaboration and governance with institutions, companies or universities.
These days highlighted the importance of policies for the defense and conservation of industrial heritage being aligned with economic and cultural policies, linked to social and technological dynamics, where the preservation and enhancement of heritage may gain increasing relevance in the new digital age.
www.patrimoniuindustrial.com
EDP sponsored the creation of the www.patrimoniuindustrial.com platform, which provides online information about the industrial heritage of the Principality of Asturias, using a combination of technology, design, audiovisual creation, academic rigor and marketing.
This project is the result of more than two years' work by a team of 30 professionals in the areas of industrial heritage, cinema, photography, art history, architecture, design, web programming, journalism and marketing.
