In Spain, collecting donations, packaging and supporting logistics for Ukraine.
28 EDP volunteers have been collaborating with the Ayuda para Ucrania project from Asturias, collecting donations, packaging and supporting logistics, in order to get the aid to those who need it most.
From the Asturias to Ukraine
Since March 2022, 28 EDP volunteers have dedicated their personal time to helping with the Ayuda para Ucrania desde Asturias (Aid to Ukraine from Asturias) project. By mid-May 2023, it has already been possible to participate in the shipment of more than 20 trucks with the collected goods, destined for Ukraine.
Main items sent to Ukraine
Among the main shipments and support provided, with EDP's support, we highlight the following:
- In February 2023, two trucks were sent with humanitarian aid to Borodianka (city destroyed by the Russians) and to Kriviy Rih (region near the Jerson front line, where there are many displaced people), which would eventually reach people who had been injured, people with disabilities, displaced people within Ukraine, among others in vulnerable situations.
- Toys donated at Christmas 2022, reached over 10,000 children.
- Fishing nets, which in Ukraine have been converted into camouflage nets, and which protect and save Ukrainian soldiers from missiles, have been provided.
- Hand and foot warmers, purchased by some of the volunteers, were sent to the front line, along with other types of aid, to help protect the soldiers from the extreme cold, with temperatures well below zero.
- At Christmas 2022, thanks to the help of EDP, it was possible to bring some joy to 82 orphaned and disabled children, who were taken from the Donbas region at the beginning of the war and are now in Asturias. They were visited by the Magi, who distributed gifts and, thanks to the volunteers, it was possible to decorate their shelter and organize a Christmas party.
- With financial donations received, children's wheelchairs and almost 3000 canned goods were purchased and shipped.
