In Spain, promoting the debate between companies and people with disabilities.
EDP supported the Prodis Foundation in carrying out the initiative "A Coffee with Prodis", which seeks to promote virtual discussion spaces between representatives of companies and people with disabilities.
Integrating difference
EDP supported, through a financial donation, the Prodis Foundation's "A Coffee with Prodis" project, a virtual meeting between business representatives and young people with intellectual disabilities, with the aim of sharing experiences and stories.
The Prodis Foundation, whose mission is to promote the social and labor inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities, intends, with this initiative integrated in the Aliaza project, to create a space for companies to raise awareness of diversity issues. They break down barriers and myths about disability in a safe and relaxed environment of shared learning.
The initiative has been generating opportunities, creating conditions for companies to invest in the inclusion of people with disabilities in their teams.
There are several employment options for people with intellectual disabilities, which allow them to develop their skills and talents and actively participate in society, including:
- Sheltered workshops (Special Employment Centers);
- Companies that promote labor inclusion. More and more companies seek to integrate people with intellectual disabilities into their work teams, in positions adapted to their skills and needs. These can be customer service departments, general services, administrative support, document management and digitalization, among others.
- Entrepreneurship: some people with intellectual disabilities have special skills or talents that can be applied in a business of their own. In these cases, it is possible to seek advice and support to undertake and develop a business project;
- Volunteering: voluntary work is a good option for people with intellectual disabilities who want to actively participate in society, acquire new skills and develop their potential. There are different organizations that offer volunteering opportunities adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.
