Concerted action is fulcral for a solution

COP27 comes again at a pivotal moment: extremely complicated geopolitics, resulting on energy, food and inflation crises, and a rapid expansion of disasters exacerbated by climate change.

Tackling climate change is one of Humanity’s most important global challenges of all times, we have a huge challenge ahead - we will need to change more in this critical decade than we ever did and we urgently need to accelerate.

Pursuing the transformations will require concerted action and deep, deliberate, long-term structural changes in resource use, infrastructure, institutions, technologies, and social relations, which have to happen in a relatively short time window.

This year UN Climate Conference will take place under the Presidency of the Government of the Republic of Egypt which has adopted the theme “Together for implementation” placing a great importance on concerted action, concrete plans and projects, and accountability for the commitments made by governments and businesses.

As an “African COP”, the needs of African and other countries that are vulnerable to the severe impacts of climate change will be at the forefront of discussions. While at the same time this COP will aim to make progress across the main areas of climate action – Mitigation, Adaptation and Finance.

As a leading energy company, EDP has reference solutions in developed and developing countries with excellent partners along the supply chain including generation; decentralization; system intelligence and optimization; energy access; efficiency services and mobility.

We are also fostering key global partnerships and dialogues, namely within UN Global Compact, WBCSD, SEforALL, TDA - Transport Decarbonisation Alliance, the Climate Group, Eurelectric and others. We participated in works and projects in different areas and in the formulation and discussion of public policies, promoting the acceleration of this systems transformations while creating value.

Businesses, governments, civil society and academia must work together, more than ever, to create the so-called “positively reinforcing loops of climate ambition” and promote the policies and financial flows needed to accelerate the transition to a zero-carbon world.
