    Propagation Time
Time it takes to manifest, between two sections of the watercourse, situations or flows due to a certain event. Note: The propagation time may be referred to, for example, by the passage of a flood wave or non-stationary fluctuations caused by a translation wave from a plant upstream to its arrival at the plant downstream .
    Protection Massif
Name given to any part of the deposit which is not exploited for safety reasons in the mine or in its surface installations. The protection masses can be temporary or permanent.
    Protocol

An international agreement connected to a convention – such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, whose signatory countries meet at the COP. A protocol normally introduces detailed commitments and implies that each country signs individually.

    Proved Reservations
Reserves whose volume or mass is proven within a margin of error of plus or minus 10%, according to a degree of exploitation with a predictive security of 90%.
    Proved Reservations
At a given date, estimated quantities with reasonable assurance for the analysis of the geological data and the study of deposits likely to be recovered from known deposits under existing economic and operating conditions on the same date.
    Proximity Effect
Effect whereby the power of a turbine decreases due to the presence of other turbine (s) installed at a certain distance measured from that turbine.
    Public service electric system (PES)
Designation in Portugal of the electricity system composed of the related producers, the concessionaire of the National Transport Network, the related distributors and SEP customers.
    Pulverized Lignite
Fuel in pulverized form used in closed systems. It is obtained by drying and fine grinding the lignite..
    Purchases from foreign suppliers
Total amount of purchases made to foreign suppliers, excluding intra-group purchases when the respective suppliers are outside the country of residence.
    Pyranometer
Solar radiation energy illumination measuring device on a surface, measures global solar radiation. Note: Although normally intended to measure global radiation, the apparatus can, with the aid of a movable ring that hides the solar disk, serve to measure the diffuse radiation (diffusometer).
    Pyreliometer
Equipment for measuring direct radiation on a surface perpendicular to the sun's rays.
    Pyrolysis
Thermal decomposition of the biomass in the absence of oxygen and the high temperature (t> 200ºC). The products obtained are generally composed of complex mixtures of acids, alcohols, adeids and phenols, which must be separated by appropriate methods to be evaluated. The gaseous residue consists of a mixture of low calorific value containing, therefore, little pure methane (less than 50%). The solid residue mainly consists of wood charcoal which can replace coke in steel.

    q

    quad
American unit of energy consumption. It is the abbreviation of one billion Btu or 10 15 Btu. 1 quad = 1, 055 EJ.
    Qualified Suppliers
Percentage of suppliers with annual accumulated values of goods received equal to or greater than € 75,000, who are qualified under the EDP Iberian Group Qualification System.
Quality of Service of an Electrical Network
Degree of compliance with contractual clauses between distributor and consumer, of a delivery of electricity within a given period of time, or, more generally, degree of disturbance of an electricity supply.
Note: The elements to be taken into account in determining the quality of service relate to:
    - the scheduled or occasional non-delivery time;
    - compliance with permissible supply conditions The maximum acceptable voltage drop, the voltage gap and the harmonic level of an alternating current network. The contractual clauses of an electricity supply and hence the required quality of service may vary according to the nature of the electrical appliances being supplied.
    Quality of Service Regulation (RQS)
Regulation that establishes the minimum quality standards of a technical and commercial nature, which must comply with the service rendered by the entities of the Public Service Electric System (SEP).

    r

    Radial Network
Network, or part of a network, wholly or partly made up of lines running from a hub.
    radian (rd)
Unit of plane Angle. The radian is the plane angle between two rays which, in the circumference of a circle, intersect an arc of length equal to the radius of that circle. 1 rad = 1 m / m = 1
    Raft
A device for using wave energy consisting of a series of relatively shallow pontoons. Connected by hinges; Electricity is produced by relative angular motion.
    Ramp
Inclined plane to overcome a level difference in a mining operation.
