    Gross value added (GVA)
Corresponds to the balance of the production account, which includes in resources, production, and in jobs, intermediate consumption, before deduction of consumption of fixed capital. It has economic significance both for the institutional sectors and for the branches of activity. GVA is valued at basic prices, that is it does not include taxes net of subsidies on products.
    Gross Water Consumption
Annual consumption of water abstracted from the water medium that is used in the installations for the process of thermal electricity generation.
Groundwater Level Lowering (Lowering of Water Level)
Evacuation, abstraction, pumping and derivation of the waters to lower the level of the water table. These operations are intended to ensure the safety of the open pit mine and the operation of its holding.

    Hard Coal
Fossil, organic, solid, combustible, black sediment having a higher calorific value above 24 MJ / kg, considering the ash-free substance having a water content which is set at a temperature of 30 ° C and a relative humidity of 96%. Note: Given the difficulties in the delimitation between carbons and lignites, defined in Calorimetry, the following identification reactions can be applied: Trace on a sheet of paper: black Reaction to the wet acid with KOH: colorless, vinous yellow or greenish, not reddish . Reaction to lignin with HNO 3 : no coloration.
    Hazardous wasteS
Annual sum of the quantities of hazardous waste disposed of which present a hazard to health or the environment defined in accordance with the European Waste List, approved by Administrative Rule 209/2004 of 3 March. Waste resulting from the activity of service providers is not included.
    Heat Accumulator
Material used in the storage system in which most of the thermal energy is stored in the form of latent heat or sensible heat.
    Heat Carrier Fluid (Primary Circuit)
Element, such as air, water or other fluid passing through the absorbent or contacting surface and extracting collected heat energy from the collector.
    Heating Gas
Gas used to heat coke ovens, semi-coke ovens or other installations where thermal reactions occur. Depending on the type of plant, rich gas (eg coke gas), lean gas (eg blast furnace) or liquefied petroleum gas is used.
    Heating, Solar Active (Active System)
A system that uses solar collectors to transfer a part of the incident solar energy on a building to a heat-carrying fluid; the thermal energy thus collected is stored and redistributed by a conventional heating system.
    Hedge
Transparent material that breaks the solar collector opening and is exposed to solar radiation retains infrared radiation from the absorbent surface by greenhouse (see Greenhouse Effect).
    Hedge Lands (Dead Grounds)
Set of economically exploitable raw material land located above the reservoir.
Height of the Sun (Solar Altitude)
Angle between the line connecting the center of the solar disk to the point of observation and the horizontal plane passing through the point of observation. Note: In the same system of horizontal celestial coordinates, the azimuth is the angle between the vertical plane that passes through the Sun and the vertical plane that contains the south direction; The azimuth allows to refer the trace of the Sun in the horizontal plane.
Height Ratio/ Diameterof a Wind Turbine
The ratio between the projection, perpendicular to the axis of rotation, of a shovel and twice the radius of the shovel.
    Heliothermic Central
Installation designed to transfer the solar energy to a heat-carrying fluid and then to transform the energy thus utilized into electric energy. Note: For example, a tower central is a heliothermic central comprising a tower in which the upper part is mounted an absorbent surface where the direct solar radiation reflected by means of heliostats is captured and converted.
    Hellostat
A system comprising an absorbent or reflecting device orientable such that direct solar radiation is absorbed or reflected at a fixed location whatever is the position of the Earth during the day. Note: The device is almost always a mirror and sometimes the term hellostat is used to refer to the steerable mirror itself.
    henry (H)
Induction unit or induction coefficient. The henry is the inductance of a closed circuit in which an electromotive force of 1 volt is generated when the electric current that runs through the circuit varies uniformly at the rate of 1 ampere per second. 1 H = 1 Wb / A
    hertz (Hz)
Frequency unit. Hertz is the frequency of a periodic phenomenon whose period is 1 second. 1 Hz = 1 s -1
    hybridisation

Hybridisation is the ability of using a single connection point to the electrical grid, in order to supply energy generated from different technologies - hydro, solar, wind. At EDP we are committed to maximize the usage of this connection point as an accelerating factor for the development of more sustainable, efficient and renewable-based generation projects.

    High Calorific Power (PCS)
The higher calorific value is the amount of heat released by the complete combustion of a unit of fuel being the condensed water vapor and recovered heat.
    High Quality Coal
Coal with a low content of poor quality products (these are the sum of the water content and the ash content of the wet coal).
