Recovering History is an initiative by the Banco Nacional do Desenvolvimento (BNDES), (or National Development Bank), with whom EDP has partnered, aims to build partnerships for the financial assistance for the recovery of the historic heritage and the Brazilian memorial acquis.
The pillars of this initiative stand on the mutual collaboration between the public and private sectors; the coordination between financiers, with the objective to maximize results and prompt the power of impact and transformation of the society; the good use of public resources and transparency.
This initiative ranges projects into three categories:
1) Material Heritage
Where the restoration or recovery of the material heritage is included, that may also aggregate actions related to the immaterial heritage or memorial acquis, as long as it’s in an accessory or complementary way.
2) Immaterial Heritage
It comprehends documentation, investigation, preservation, protection, promotion, appreciation, transmission, and regeneration of the immaterial heritage. Some actions related to the material heritage and memorial acquis can be included, as long as in an accessory or complementary way.
3) Memorial Acquis
Projects related to listings, sanitization, packaging, restoration, environmental management, installation of security systems, improvement of the infrastructures, visitations to memorial acquis, and structuring of the acquis networks. Some actions related to the material heritage and memorial acquis can be included, as long as in an accessory or complementary way.
The entities that can apply for this support are: nonprofit associations or private foundations, city halls, or public foundations (state, council, or district).
In this initiative several projects are already running, such as the restoration and readjustment of Carlos Gomes theater, in Vitória, Brazil, and the Church and Residence of the Three Wise Men, in Serra.
This is an innovative initiative whose objective is to draw attention to the heritage and form partnerships for financial assistance in the recovery of historic heritage and the Brazilian memorial acquis.
