In Portugal, prioritizing the scientific and cultural promotion.
Prioritizing the scientific and cultural promotion, the EDP Foundation produces and supports investigation projects and knowledge disclosure, with a special focus in the school community. It’s one of the official partners of The Lisbon Consortium Program, from the Portuguese Catholic University, that is financing, among others, a scholarship program.
Thinking ahead
From the model of the London Consortium, - which includes, among other entities, the Tate Modern - by the hand and vision of the Portuguese Catholic University, The Lisbon Consortium Program was born, in 2010, with the mission of promotion the advanced training in the field of Culture Studies, as well as the students’ professional integration.
The program was ranked as the 4th best in the world by the Ranking Eduniversal Best Master's, in Gestão Cultural/Gestão de Indústrias Criativas, or Cultural and Business Management of Creative Industries, in 2019.
It arose from the willingness to rethink master’s degree and PhD’s, in the sense of a dialogue and cooperation among universities and cultural agents, contributing towards the promotion of Lisbon as a strong pole of attraction, for the reflection about the culture phenomenon, and the attraction of international critical mass for the ongoing projects.
The four baseline pillars of the program are, in that sense, the interinstitucional cooperation, research excellence; cultural creativity and entrepreneurship and the social responsibility in the production of knowledge.
Among their primary activities, the following stand out:
- Coordination of academic activities with partnered cultural institutions, in Lisbon, granting its due accreditation;
- The organization of seminars and theme workshops, conjointly with partnered institutions;
- The development of research projects with the goal of studying and promoting the cultural and heritage assets from partners;
- The professional integration, using internships, in partnered institutions;
- The annual accomplishment, in several cultural institutions in Lisbon, of the Lisbon Summer School for the Study of Culture, the annual meeting of the Master’s and PhD’s Program in Cultural Studies from The Lisbon Consortium, that gathers prestigious academics in the cultural area, doctoral candidates and young researchers from all over the world;
- Double graduate PhD’s, with international partners (Justus-Liebig University Giessen, University of Copenhagen and PUC-Rio, Brazil).
The International Grant, issued by the EDP Foundation, in the amount of 5.000€, has the objective to finance research led by an international doctorate student within the Cultural Studies program.
