Supporting sustainable projects that nurture a fairer, more inclusive and socially responsible society.
The Energy Solidarity program is an initiative of the EDP Foundation, which originated in Portugal in 2004 under the name "Solidarity EDP". Since then, the program's initial aim has been to support projects aimed at improving the quality of life of socially disadvantaged people and integrating communities at risk of social exclusion. In 2023, the program was restructured and renamed "EDP Energy Solidarity", reflecting a new focus on promoting a fair and inclusive energy transition. This evolution includes support for initiatives that address issues such as energy inclusion, protection of natural heritage and biodiversity, energy efficiency, renewable energies and sustainable mobility. This year, the program received 144 applications, covering areas such as access to energy, energy efficiency, electric mobility, renewable energies and support for communities in energy transition.
For 2024, the program will continue to support projects with the potential to generate a significant positive impact on vulnerable people or groups in more isolated communities. Organizations, even non-profit ones, can apply, with the support of a network of incubators that are partners of EDP Energy Solidarity, which help with the ideation process and the preparation of proposals. The selected organizations are expected to be announced in November 2024. In addition, the organizations selected to receive support from the program will have access to volunteer support from the EDP group during the implementation of the projects, strengthening collaboration and commitment to social and environmental transformation.
The program gives a leading role to innovation and collaboration, betting on ideas and their potential to generate the greatest possible social impact. EDP Energy Solidarity aims to amplify knowledge and debate on current issues such as sustainability, decarbonization and climate action, seeking to incite deep and sustainable social transformation, with the promotion of social inclusion and climate action as fundamental pillars of its mission.
