In Portugal, thinking about the future of sustainability and energy transition.
In the context of its Environment Policy, one of the commitments taken by EDP consists of alerting new generations to the threats biodiversity has been suffering. The action goes through education, running a series of initiatives that aim to promote dialogue and stimulate action.
Live spaces for learning
EDP Foundation promotes several initiatives that aim to endow communities, particularly young people, with tools that support the reflection about the future, using topics such as sustainability and a fair energy transition.
In what intends on being live dynamic spaces for learning, the reflection on identifying problems we face daily is encouraged, as well as dialogue, in the search for solutions to take care of the future.
Among the initiatives developed in this context, we highlight:
1. Conversations with Energy
This initiative, which intends on being comprehensive, includes private and public schools, and TEIP (programa destinado a Territórios Educativos de Intervenção Prioritária), or PIET (program destined for Priority Intervention Education Territories), with students ranging from the fifth grade to college students. Each session is a unique experience, that promotes the debate in a group of young people and a different speaker about the past, present, and future of our planet.
2. Districts with Energy
This project encompasses the accomplishment of four workshops in the municipal districts of Alta de Lisboa, Bairro do Rego, Vale de Alcântara and Vale de Chelas. It’s inserted in the strategy for social innovation by the EDP Foundation, which has actively worked in the area of community impact, with a special focus on the people and communities in vulnerable situations and also on sustainability.
3. Sharing with Energy
This program includes the revitalization of three days of exchange between schools of different regions in the country. High school teachers and students, between 15 and 19 years of age, are challenged to define and program several activities that advertise their region, their strong points, spaces, and different activities.
4. Music with Energy
A project partnered with Skoola Urban Music Academy, invites students from 10 to 18 years of age to reflect on the sense of climate urgency and to create artistic pieces capable of prompting other youngsters to follow the same path.
5. Art with Energy Contest
An action that intends on encouraging the creative potential of children and young people from the 1st to the 9th grade who, from the discussion of a socially relevant topic, are challenged to integrate art and energy under an artistic representation form.
6. Learning with Energy
A program in which middle school teachers and students (between 10 and 12 years of age), in the context of the themes encompassing renewable energies, sustainability, and others, have the opportunity, in a classroom, to assemble a reduced scale model of a wind turbine and a water power plant, to further understand how they work.
7. Classes with Energy
Sessions that allow presenting the energy and renewable energies world to the younger generations, namely through the Energy Campaign, that is held since 2018, in every region that EDP operates in, and that looks to activate the skills and energy from the volunteers to serve others.
