In Portugal, volunteers and doctors of the World get together for the transformation of a community.
Energy Solidarity Week is one of EDP’s Energy Campaign actions and it is at the center of World Energy Day commemorations. During Energy Solidarity Week, the EDP’s volunteers and Doctors of the World have participated in several activities and thought and created the transformation of a community. This transformation was also possible because community members got actively involved in the initiatives.
EDP and Doctors of the World in the joint solidarity plan of action
During one month, a company’s workforce combined with a few associations had the opportunity to participate in the EDP Energy Campaign Volunteering Program.
This program counted on several actions such as “Quero dar aulas de energia” (I want to teach Energy), where EDP’s volunteers have streamlined a class for children and young people, and the Energy Solidarity Week. In this last action, communities were urged to use the energy positively, showing that everyone is responsible, from schools to social organizations.
World Energy Day
Ever since the beginning of the 80s decade, more specifically since 1981, May 29th is saved for the celebration of World Energy Day, by indication of the current Energy and Geology General Directorate.
World Energy Day intends to bring people to the importance of saving energy and its environmental impacts, besides motivating renewable energy resources.
The Energy Solidarity Week - 2022
In the Energy Solidarity Week 2022, EDP volunteers work together with the Doctors of the World for community transformation, particularly.
During four days around, 152 volunteers from both organizations, gathered in Castanheira de Pêra, to make a difference there.
This action from the EDP Energy Campaign allows everyone, the EDP volunteers, Doctors of the World, and the communities, to make a difference in what concerns the way energy is used. Only in this way will the transformation and improvement of people’s lives can happen.
Throughout these days, many were the points in the daily agenda of the EDP volunteers and the Doctors of the World volunteers. From the delivery of solidary toys to the creation of biological gardens and even from the reconstruction of a volunteering school with the support of Just a Change. Just a Change is a nonprofit organization, whose main duty is to reconstruct the homes of people in need.
The cleaning of green spaces in the community was equally one of the initiatives in this Volunteering Program.
Energy Classes
Training and relaying information is essential so that the message is clear and everyone understands it.
As a consequence of this train of thought, workshops dedicated to learning were developed, where children and the elderly cross paths and get involved in a wide range of activities.
With younger generations in mind, so that they may understand what they can do in the future,
Energy Classes were created for the 1st and 2nd cycles of studies. The sooner they learn to have a good relationship with energy, the better the short-term results will be.
