Access to electricity is critical to the social and economic development of communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. Nigeria, the most populated country in Africa, houses over 70 million people without access to electricity. Another over 50 million Nigerians connected to the grid struggle immensely with reliable electricity, they live on less than 4 hours of electricity daily. Due to this, most households and businesses generate electricity individually, mostly through expensive, hazardous, and unhealthy means through petrol and diesel generators, inadvertently posing a huge threat to the environment and user's health. Families and small businesses spend more than 30% of their monthly income go to electricity generation.

Project: Deploy 400 Capsules to 4 Energy poor communities in Ibafo, Ogun State Nigeria

Country & region/location: Nigeria, Ofada, Shimawa, Asese, Olowotedo communities - Ogun State

    Category: Energy & Business

The project aims to deploy 400 Reeddi Capsule across four energy-poor communities. supplying clean, reliable, and affordable electricity to over 400 households and businesses daily in these energy-poor communities while reducing their energy expenses by over 30%. Currently available Reeddi alternatives include off-grid home-solar systems & petrol/diesel generators, which provide energy for households/businesses in energy-poor communities around the world. However, these alternatives are expensive, unhealthy, and/or environmentally damaging.

The Reeddi Capsule deployment will eliminate the associated upfront cost barrier associated with accessing electricity by households and businesses in these communities. Operating a hardware-as-a-service model ensures customers pay an affordable daily rental fee to access clean and reliable electricity anywhere and anytime easily. When compared to existing energy provision alternatives, the proprietary modular combinable features of the Reeddi Capsules make them useful for high & low-energy operations from phone charging to refrigeration. Reeddi's energy system is mobile and can be used and moved anywhere. It’s a simple plug-and-play solution.

Local operation and distribution of the technology will also create employment in the operating communities while increasing health, educational and environmental outcomes in these target regions.

    Expected results:

    • Supply clean electricity to 400 combined households and businesses daily with clean, reliable, and affordable electricity
