EDP donates energy to hotels requisitioned in the fight against the pandemic
Two hotels in Lisbon and Portimão are the first EDP Comercial customers to be given free electricity while hosting medical teams from nearby hospitals.
EDP will - through EDP Comercial - provide free energy to hotels that are requisitioned to provide hospital staff with accommodation during the ongoing pandemic crisis - a service that will be offered throughout the entire requisition period.
Penina Hotel & Resort (Portimão) and Turim Ibéria Hotel (Lisbon) will be the first hotels to receive free electricity from EDP Comercial. Throughout this week, EDP Comercial will study its client portfolio to find hotels in similar circumstances and formalize this offer.
These two hotels, which were closed, are located in the vicinity of healthcare facilities that asked for help in providing accommodation to health professionals who are working to fight Covid-19. EDP immediately partnered with their parent companies and the hotel industry association to respond to this urgent call and provide these hotels with free electricity while they provide such support.
With this initiative the EDP Group is ramping up its contribution to helping health teams that are on the ground providing assistance to patients affected by the coronavirus outbreak. In addition to this free electricity supply, the company has also made substantial donations for purchasing hospital and medical equipment that could prove decisive at a time when healthcare services need them the most.
Moreover, by the end of the week EDP is expected to receive the medical equipment it has purchased in partnership with its shareholder China Three Gorges (CTG), which includes 50 ventilators, 200 medical monitors, consumables and other medical materials - an investment totaling €4 million. This equipment has been delivered last weekend at the Portuguese embassy in Beijing and is expected to arrive in Lisbon this Friday, April 3.
