EDP awarded long-term contracts for 160 MW of Storage in Poland
Lisbon, December 18th 2024:EDP, S.A. (EDP), through its 71.3% owned subsidiary EDP Renováveis, S.A. (EDPR) has received information about the preliminary results of the main capacity market auction published by Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne S.A., where EDPR has been awarded with 17-year contracts for two Battery Energy Storage System (“BESS”) projects in Poland with a total installed capacity of 160 MW (641 MWh).
The projects awarded include:
- A 60 MW (241 MWh) BESS project with COD expected in 2026, and;
- A 100 MW (400 MWh) BESS project with COD expected in 2029.
With these projects, EDP reinforces its presence in the storage market, having already secured 100% of EDPR’s target of 0.7 GW for 2024-26 additions in storage and with 57 MW already in operation, allowing EDP to take advantage of this technology as an important component of the global decarbonization drive given their crucial role to complement variable renewables generation.
